The attitude behind the collection
“Behind our designs is not a style, but a way of thinking”, is how Martin Kleinhans puts it. The trained cabinetmaker, who originally worked as a mechanical engineer and is thus a career changer like Nils Holger Moormann, also discovered like his colleague a penchant for designing furniture. In the late 1980s he began to act on his impulse. A decade later, now with production director Matthias Eckert as partner, he made the decision to put out his own collection. It now comprises some 20 products. One that was already shown at the 1997 Cologne Furniture Fair was a shallow wall container up to three metres in length. It is disarmingly simple and has a linoleum skin that is mitred all around. This exacting craftsmanship lends the piece the look of a block in space, which, although angular, is not hard due to the softness of the material.
