leaning aid Quick

Still family-run today, this company from southern Hesse already began establishing its brand back in the 1960s. The acquisition of the Christian Holzäpfel company – a prime innovator in the field of German furniture design – in the 1970s was followed by rapid internationalization in the 1980s, coupled with the introduction of novel products. Ever since King Alpha came out (1980, by Frogdesign), one of the first multifunctional office systems, design has also played a role in the corporate philosophy. The brand carved out a profile for itself as full-service supplier on a high level, offering informative Internet portals as part of the mix. The current collection ranges from the portable leaning aid Quick (which can be folded up like a metal scooter), to container programs and variable table and desk systems, to complete office furnishings solutions. The concepts come from both the company’s own in-house design and development team as well as from external designers – who are not showcased, though. Notable among these are Hans-Ulrich Bitsch and Hadi Teherani, whose Standby Office mobile office unit (2000) represents a response to the increasing flexibility demanded in the working world, as does the multi-award-winning Re.Lounge easychair and table program by Burkhard Vogtherr ( 2002, with Jonathan Prestich). The latter, which today offers two easychair and two table variations, has an unusually low seating height that makes it ideal for ad-hoc meetings in a relaxed atmosphere, as well a congenial addition to the home. Tensa from the year 2000 set an exclamation mark on the hotly contested terrain of swivelling office chairs with its “dynamic torsion system”. Soon to follow in the industry’s showcase discipline was Skye, best in class in terms of offering a wide range of seating angles, all the way to a near- reclining position. Other company innovations include the DO IT table system, which comes with flexible dividing walls to fit a number of different work situations. Today, with over 1,300 employees at four production sites, the enterprise with headquarters in the Wetterau region generates the highest sales volume of all German office furniture manufacturers.
