Kaldewei

bath and shower tray manufacturer, Ahlen / North Rhine-Westphalia

The company name is by now synonymous with a traditional material: enamelled steel. The combination of steel, the stuff of which the industrial revolution was made, and white enamel, which has moulded our image of what a modern bathroom should look like, possesses unrivalled qualities even today. In addition to offering good flow pro p e rties and being nearly one hundred percent recyclable, steel enamel baths have an extremely hard surface that is only surpassed by that of precious stones, a feature that is ideal when it comes to hygiene. The Westphalian enterprise, today the world’s leading manufacturer of bathtubs, started out as a producer of raw goods for the enamel industry such as washtubs and milk jugs. The company began in the mid-1930s to fabricate steel bathtubs. At the end of the 1950s, the first tub without a welded seam represented an innovation that would become the new gold standard within the space of just a few years. Kaldewei is today the only manufacturer in the industry with its own enamel development department and its own production. Today’s product range encompasses well over 200 models, with systematic thinking a key concept behind the collections. Complete solutions and

clever details for both the high-end small bathroom and the capacious luxury oasis are on offer, along with furnishings for hotel bathrooms the world over. With the discovery of the bathroom as a place for contemplative withdrawal and relaxation, in which we like to surround ourselves with harmonious accoutrements, the design aspect automatically came to the fore. Kaldewei now collaborates with two premier design studios: Phoenix Design in Stuttgart, which can boast wide-ranging experience in bathroom design, and Sottsass Associati in Milan. The Italians are enlisted in particular for premium models such as the Kusatsu Pool, a deep sitzbath that is oriented on Japanese bathing culture, and the Mega Duo Oval, whose interior figure-eight shape is combined with an oval, rectangular or hexagonal exterior form.
