They develop the idea first and then an understanding of the consumer. The park bench Freestyler, which is in a form that resembles a surfboard, is ideal for young people who meet out of doors. The Ponti beer garden table was created for “individuals lacking a garden”. The Rahm'ses bookshelf is designed to help those who move often or like to change their decor. Made out of only four main elements, an infinite number of configurations is possible, and thanks to small locking pins, tools aren’t necessary. Studio Vertijet comprises interior designer Antje Hoppert and designer Steffen Kroll. The studio quickly became a household name for ‘people in the know’ and is now counted as a top address in German home design. It is alwaysone of the first names mentioned when young, successful German furniture designers are discussed. In just a few years, the Saxons have opened up a new field starring their own f u rnishings. They designed carpet collections, for example, for well-known manufacturers like JAB Anstoetz and COR. For the latter this was a premiere. It was the upholstered furn i t u re for COR in particular that attracted the attention of those in the business and also went over well on the market. With Scroll, they managed to raise the conversion factor of the common sofa to an even higher power. The Nuba sofa by contrast gives the impression of a monument to seating, as if it were chiselled out of stone. Hoppert and Kroll even succeeded at what no one thought possible: inventing a new variation of the cantilevered chair in Hob (all 2003, for COR). This is not the only creation of theirs that takes full advantage of what a material is capable of: the Neo chair likewise takes the possibilities to their limit. The application of a new 3-D technique was critical in thiscase, allowing for the extreme bends and small cross sections. The chair resembles a naturally growing tree in structure. A classic furniture type, which appeared to be out of fashion, experiences a Renaissance here.
