As a cultural technique, weaving has a tradition that goes far back to the earliest days of human history. Using industrial felt for a carpet, however, is a complete novelty, continually revealing fresh angles, such as is often the case with the less spectacular innovations. Graphically, the surface of the rug Geflecht (Weaving), which comes in various sizes ranging up to a three-and-a-half-metre square, is made up of smaller squares. Since it is now available in almost 40 colours, the possibilities for adding accents to a room are manifold. The interweaving of the individual five-centimetre-wide felt strips lends the rug its unique three-dimensional structure, which is exact but nevertheless not entirely uniform. This is because the felt is woven by hand. This leads to slight bulges and edges that create a pattern of shadow, which also dictates the tactile properties. Walking on the weave barefoot is a very pleasant experience – with the interplay of texture and pliancy feeling almost like a massage. It’s no surprise that the sensuous felt pad, which is made of pure wool, is often used as a yoga mat.
