He delivers one example after the other for the new minimalism in German design for living. And now a Sanktjohanser brainchild that was originally planned for a New York art fair has evolved into a brand new type of multifunctional furniture: Socialbox, a mixture of bench, cabinet and shelf. If the term “cabinet furniture” is ever appropriate, then it is here, where the right angle has an unchallenged monopoly. The structure consists of four permanently attached elements made of MDF panels. Three of them are composed of three cubes and the other of two. Stood on end they form an approximately shoulder-height shelf open on all sides. Two of the elements can be tilted down to the side to make a bench or corner bench (which can of course also be used for storage). The adaptability of Socialbox is dictated by the arrangement of the hinges. It is not an expandable system, but rather a changeable single piece of furniture which lends itself to versatile applications. It can serve as corner seating, lectern, secretary and much, much more. The combination of MDF and aluminium makes it very sturdy, while at the same time exuding understated, upscale simplicity.
